Three Amigos

Brothers Nenad, Ilija, and Alex Gajic form the core of the Colorado Mammoth lacrosse team (coloradomammoth.com). These Burnaby, British Columbia natives, two of whom have played for the University of Denver, are now on the same team and, athletic prowess aside, intend to play a significant role in the Mammoth’s community relations efforts, providing a unique mar-keting opportunity. The three came together this season when Mammoth captain and fan favorite Gavin Prout was traded for a younger offensive threat in Ilija (25), and Alex (23) was selected fifth in this year’s entry draft to join Nenad (27) on the team. Alex is the youngest of four star Gajic brothers, but the elder siblings often agree that Alex is the best. Says Alex, “I try to take a little bit away from all of them. Milan [a professional hockey player for the Florida Everblades] was more of a gritty, fighter type. Nenad is a born leader who doesn’t need the ball to make others better, and Ilija can change a game by himself and treats each game like it’s his last.”
