From Our Straw: Hutch and Spoon’s House-Made Sodas

Cherry-lime? Passion fruit–vanilla? Cucumber? You can’t go wrong with any of owner Tracy Zimmer’s house-made sodas at Hutch and Spoon, but we especially love the simplicity of the lemonade. While most people think of the timeless thirst quencher as a summer drink, try it while ogling his spoon collection this winter, the peak season for citrus ($2.25; hutchandspoon.com). — SB

From Our Chopsticks: Den Deli’s Kinpira Gobo

Modeled after a depachika, the subterranean food court of a Japanese department store, the new deli, noodle bar, and seafood market from the owners of Sushi Den is a must-visit. We can’t get enough of Den Deli’s Kinpira Gobo, a crunchy, sesame-flecked burdock slaw ($3.50; dendeli.net). — SB

From Our Calendar: Denver Restaurant Week

Initiated in 2005, Denver Restaurant Week is back for its sixth straight year. This year, the “week” will actually be two. From February 20 through March 5, restaurants across town will be serving incredibly priced tasting menus ($52.80 for two; denverrestaurantweek.com). — KS

From Our Fork: Shanahan’s Pan-Fried Oysters

After opening night, we went home wishing we’d had seconds, even thirds, of Shanahan’s pan-fried oysters. For this appetizer, executive chef Stephen Vice serves lightly floured Chesapeake Bay oysters with a spicy-mustard remoulade ($12; shanahanssteakhouse.com). — ML

From Our Library: Kelly Liken in Coco

In Coco (2009, Phaidon), 10 masters such as Alain Ducasse and Alice Waters profile a hundred of their favorite contemporary chefs from around the world. One of Mario Batali’s picks is Vail’s Kelly Liken. The gorgeous, 400-page book includes six of her Colorado recipes, written for the serious cook ($50, phaidon.com). — SB

From Our Lunch Hour: Gastro Cart’s “Veg Taco”

When it comes to fabulous street food, there’s a new kid on the block. Literally. Made to order by two Table 6 alums on the northern corner of 18th and Curtis, our favorite menu item is Gastro Cart’s “Veg Taco,” which comes with a caramelized cabbage roll, duxelles (chopped mushrooms cooked in butter), and smoked jalapeño aioli ($3; gastrocart.com). — DB

From Our Fridge: Oskar Blues Velvet Elvis Stout

While checking out Oskar Blues Home Made Liquids & Solids in Longmont, we fell in love with the brewery’s Velvet Elvis Stout. You can grab a pint of the creamy, chocolate-heavy seasonal at this new honky-tonk pub or head down the road to the Tap Room for a growler to go (pint, $5; growler, $15; oskarblues.com). — SB
