A Party for Your Feet
Botox parties are so passé. The latest reason to gather your girlfriends: a shoe party! Set out some cocktails, crank the iPod, and call up Atelier, a Denver-based custom shoe–design company that makes house calls in the metro area. For no charge, an Atelier rep will drop by to show off the company’s newly launched, online design studio, which features 80 different materials — from faux zebra fur to metallic leather — nine styles (Mary Janes, peep-toe sandals), and tons of colors to pick from. The kicks will run you $135 to $300, but it’s a small price to pay for shopping from your sofa. ateliershoes.com
Hot Eco Art
Ever wanted to stand next to a giant particle accelerator? Now’s your chance. Head to the Museum of Contemporary Art–Denver, where artist Jim Sanborn’s functional atom-splitting model is on display — along with works by Buenos Aires architect Ciro Najle, who makes art out of irrigation experiments — as part of the lofty new Energy Effects show. According to the museum, the exhibition “explores the power and beauty of excess energy” in our eco-conscious age. Wasted energy may make Al Gore sad — but it’s still worth a visit. mcadenver.org
Freshen It Up
Forget the grocery store, and sign up with Door to Door Organics, a Boulder-based company, the only local biz that will deposit a customized assortment of fresh fruits, veggies, and herbs right on your front porch every week through October — for a fee, of course. The seasonal goodies — ranging from Gala apples to red kale — change weekly, depending on freshness, and the food is sourced locally whenever possible. Bonus: You can trace your healthy eats from farm to table, literally — the farmer bios on Door to Door’s website let you read about who’s growing your cabbage. doortodoororganics.com
Smell the Roses
Fragrant breezes are wafting out of Boulder, where longtime perfumer Dawn Hurwitz is cooking up all-natural concoctions. Made almost entirely from botanical ingredients, her new line, Limited Editions by Parfums des Beaux Arts, stars 49 delicious scents, from rose to chiles and chocolate. The perfumes are based on Hurwitz’s travels abroad, so you can live vicariously through your nose: Evoke a Parisian jazz club with the spicy Café Noir, or conjure up the French Riviera with the floral Grasse, an homage to the world’s perfume capital. dshperfumes.com
