The name Donald J. Pliner (donaldjpliner.com) is iconic in the world of designer shoes. But the man behind the brand combines 18-hour workdays with being a husband and father, which recently led Donald and wife Lisa — always philanthropically inclined — to create the Peace for Children Foundation with a focus on encouraging education and communication and developing problem-solving and peace-making skills. The foundation has partnered with KaBoom! to bring playgrounds to communities where they are needed, and it includes the local children in the planning process. Pliner himself will be in Denver March 24 for a personal appearance at Garbarini (garbarinishop.com) in Cherry Creek North. Foundation T-shirts will be available for a $25 donation, and $10 from each pair of shoes sold that day will go to the kids as well.
