If the Shirt Fits

Marc Piscotty

There is something inherently alluring about a man comfortable in his own skin, and it starts with well-fitting clothes.

Custom-fitted clothing was once the exclusive purview of the very wealthy. But now customers of J. Hilburn can have bespoke shirts made for them at prices low enough to fill their closets.

Here’s how it works: A “personal style advisor,” such as Janine Slee, arrives at your home or office, armed with fabric swatches and a measuring tape. She then records your choice of style in cuff, collar, and cut, plus pocket, placket, and pleat.

Fabrics come in three price points: $79, $99, and $149 per finished shirt for the same Egyptian cotton, Italian-made piques and pinpoints sourced by Lauren and Zegna, yet the patterns and colors are about 12 – 18 months ahead of what appears in stores.

There is no minimum order; in fact, every customer begins with a single shirt, so Slee can check the final fit. At that point, your sizes are recorded, so you can reorder with the push of a button.

Craving more? J. Hilburn plans two new products each quarter: sweaters, pants, jackets, and ties. 303.810.1400, jhilburn.com
