Best Of The Web: Baracky

Before viral marketing, before You Tube, the average consumer could tell the difference between professionally produced ads and the work of mere amateurs. Now? Not so much. Case in point is the latest video to clog inboxes around America – Baracky: The Movie.

Sure it’s cute. Sure pasting Barack’s head over Sylvester Stallone’s is kinda funny. Sure Hillary as the egomaniacal Apollo Creed is spot on. But despite the video’s mild wit - smile worthy, but hardly ROFL material – the thing smacks of being too packaged, too vanilla-safe to be anything but the work of hipster Obama campaign operatives. (If that is the case, they’d do well to remember that it’s Apollo Creed who wins in the end. Somehow I doubt Barack Obama is willing to settle for a heartwarming moral victory as he rides off into the sunset with Talia Shire.)

Maybe we’ve gotten so used to viral marketing by now we’re able to spot it a mile away. Or maybe we’ve just gotten more cynical. Either way, take a look and judge for yourself.
