DNC Protesters Break Laws, Tell Police About It First

Recreate ’68, Denverism’s favorite group of Bolshevik-Lite activists who don’t believe in war or regular bathing, is at it again. Now, R-68 plans to break city laws during the DNC – and, much to the delight of police, told anyone who’ll listen about their plans in advance. Their no doubt well-thought-through vision is to found a “Free City” in Civic Center Park and occupy it day and night from Sunday, August 24th through the end of the convention on August 28th. Problem is, Recreate 68 only has permission to use the park August 25th and 27th, and only during daylight. As the park is the closest “free speech zone” to the Convention, it is a sought after venue for many protest groups. To determine who gets use of the park and when, the city – very sensibly, we might add – chose to allocate time through a lottery system. However, R-68 was dissatisfied with the results, and the group – who ostensibly is all into sharing and cooperation – decided neither to share nor cooperate. To each according to his needs, indeed. The police, in response, mumbled something noncommittal about hoping people respect the laws of the land, blah, blah, blah. However you can be sure Denver’s Finest are dusting off their batons and Plexiglas shields as we speak. R-68 is already off to a good (read: adorably inept) start. They attempted to pound a sign saying “Free City” into the ground, but the wind blew it over almost immediately. Glenn Spagnuolo, spokesman for R-68, said Free City would be violence free. Denverism suspects Free City will also be free of toilets and running water, as well. (Though it will surely have weed, drums, and all manner of performance art in abundance.) |

Darn hippies.
I love it how these kids from the 'burbs go to art school on their parents dime and then spend the rest of their life feeling all angsty.
