Antique Show & Sale to benefit the Central City Opera Historic Preservation Program
World-renowned antique collectors and dealers will meet in Denver this weekend for the 26th annual Denver Antiques Show & Sale. European linens, Victorian Majolica and Oriental rugs are just a few of the treasures featured in the Tuscan-themed setting. Hugh Hildesley, the executive vice president of Sotheby's North and South America, will kick off Friday's events with "A View from the Podium: An Auctioneers Account," a lecture chronicling his 40-year career and experiences as auctioneer in sales for collections from luminaries including the Duke and Duchess of Windsor and the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis estate. (Tickets are $85 per person, which includes the $10 3-day show pass.)
Another event is the "Stars of the Show," which includes a tour of the show floor while manager Bob James explains why the value of one particular piece can be more substantial than others. (Tour is free.)
Friday through Sunday, April 18-20, times vary.

Martin and Malcolm: One Vision - Two Voices
Witness a unique take on the American Civil Rights movement during an interactive living-history debate between two scholars portraying Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Malcolm X.
It will feature Bill Grimmette, a master storyteller and actor who has appeared at the Smithsonian Institution and on National Public Radio as Dr. King, and Charles Everett Pace, a performance anthropologist and Chautauqua scholar as Malcolm X. The discussion will explore the opposing philosophies of these luminary leaders. Denver television veteran Tamara Banks will moderate the debate with a Q&A session to follow.

Man Made
The whimsical, yet visceral, appearance of artist Patrick Dougherty's temporary stick structures is captivating and alluring. The internationally acclaimed mastermind will be constructing StickWorks, his outdoor installation through April 19. Witness as Dougherty builds his site-specific structure without tools or supportive hardware.

The Colorado chapter of the Human Rights Campaign, the largest national gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender civil rights organization, is having its annual fundraising gala. Luminaries include keynote speaker Congressman Mark Udall, former President of the HRC Foundation Joe Solmonese and guest performer Frenchie Davis, former American Idol contestant and star of the west coast tour of Dreamgirls. The gala will honor Campaign supporters recognized for excellence inspiring and encouraging equality and human rights in the community.
