Food Bank of the Rockies, Denver Magazine, and 2 the Deuce Faces of Hunger Photo Essay Contest
Nearly 600,000 people in Colorado live with the reality of hunger. Food Bank of the Rockies’ blog, frontlinesofhunger.blogspot.com, profiles the stories behind the faces of our hungry neighbors. FBR, Denver Magazine, and 2 the Deuce have partnered to give local photography lovers the opportunity to profile more faces of hunger and to learn, first-hand, the reality of a problem taking place in our own backyard. The contest welcomes amateur and professional photographers to profile an individual or family struggling with hunger in Colorado to be judged by 2 the Deuce’s Natalie Tysdal; Mayor John Hickenlooper; Kevin Seggelke, CEO of FBR; professional photographers; and Denver Magazine’s CEO and publisher, Michael Ledwitz. The top 50 entries will be displayed at a debut event at Fat Tail Gallery September 2. Winning entries under both categories will be featured in Denver Magazine’s September issue and on 2 the Deuce’s morning news. Earth Day has come and gone, but helping the environment should be a daily commitment. In honor of Earth Day, the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals International and Bark Busters, the world’s largest dog training company, announced the launch of their Partner for Pups Reusable Bag Program. The program was created for pet lovers to demonstrate environmentally responsible habits by using reusable bags for shopping to reduce the amount of plastic grocery bags in landfills and the environment and reduce animal deaths caused by these plastic bags. In addition to helping the environment and wildlife, all proceeds support SPCA International’s animal and shelter programs, such as Operation Baghdad Pups, an initiative that provides assistance to military personnel who wish to transport companion dogs from the war zone in the Middle East to their homes in the United States. The “Partner for Pups” reusable bags are available for purchase for $1.99 through BarkBustersBoutique.com. Bark Busters Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals |
