2009 Plaid Classic Golf Tournament
The Plaid Classic celebrates all that is wonderful about golf fashion — ok, wearing the intricate checked fabric isn’t absolutely required, but what fun is it to buck the trend? The event benefits the Ryan Gibson Foundation, the goal of which is straightforward: to find a cure for leukemia. The organizers of this nonprofit are carrying on the dream of founder Gibson through grants and contributions supporting research and treatments for leukemia. All they want to accomplish is what their friend originally set out to do: save lives. Registration as a foursome includes the use of carts, a goodie bag, a boxed lunch and drinks, and a buffet dinner. Corporate sponsorships are also available.

The Single Man’s Guide to Cooking with Beer Book Launch Party
Join one of Denver’s most eligible bachelors, Streeter McClure, as he unveils his new book which promises to help men find their way around a kitchen. With 34 original and adapted recipes for appetizers, soups, stews, and main courses, McClure’s cookbook aims to help men incorporate beer into delicious dishes in the same way chefs use wine. The inspiration for the recipes in the book came from a dish McClure’s mother used to make, “One Beer Chili.” Publishing the cookbook was a promise McClure made to his mother before she died of breast cancer in 2005. In her honor, he has dedicated a portion of the book’s proceeds to breast cancer research. Join McClure on Wednesday night at a special book launch event at the Tavern Lowry. Sample appetizers from the cookbook will be served, and the event is open to the public.
Tickets can be purchased online at thesinglemansguide.com. A $20 ticket includes appetizers and beer, while a $35 ticket includes appetizers, beer, and a copy of the book, which retails for $16.95. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Men for the Cure Foundation, a nonprofit organization supporting breast cancer clinical care and research.
