The Mayor's New Denver Daisy

Mayor John Hickenlooper is more than just a mayor, he is a bit of a botanist as well. Hickenlooper has helped developed a hybrid daisy, named Rudbeckia, and designed it just for Denver! With the Democratic National Convention in August and Denver's 150th anniversary November 22, it is time Denver has a flower of its own. Hickenlooper has encouraged all Denverites to plant seeds ASAP for the DNC so Denver will literally be glowing with the distinct yellow blossoms when we're in the national spotlight.

Visit www.denvergov.org for information on obtaining the seeds.

Mutts & Models 2008

Diamonds are fur-ever...Local celebrities and canines have joined together to present the Seventh Annual Mutts & Models Canine Fashion Show to raise money for the Harrison Memorial Animal Hospital. Check out Saks Fifth Avenue's latest threads while hitting the catwalk with dogs in tow. Presented by Bow Wow Buddies, this is one of Denver's favorite fashion shows, so you'll be sure to have a "fur-tastic" time.

History of Mother's Day

In the United States, Mother's Day is loosely based on the British day of the same name and was imported by Julia Ward Howe after the American Civil War. Originally, it was intended as a call to untie women against war, but failed to gain national approval. The first Mother's Day as we currently know it was celebrated in Grafton, West Virginia, on May 10, 1908. In 1914 President Woodrow Wilson declared the first national Mother's Day, as a day for American citizens to show the flag in honor of mothers who had died during war.
