Spring has arrived. THAT MEANS THE LEAVES ARE RETURNING AND It's time to park the bulky SUV in the garage for a rest and feel the wind blow through your hair. Whether it's an Aston Martin, an Audi TT or a Mazda Miata, these convertibles CAN PROVIDE a hair-raising driving experience.

Aston Martin V8 Vantage Roadster
Price: $126,400
Engine: 4.3 Liter V-8
Horse Power: 380
Top Speed: 175 mph
Gear Box: 6-speed manual
Our Rating: 5 stars

Balanced, graceful and distinctive, the Vantage Roadster is handcrafted to perfection that only Aston Martin could deliver. The latest model is the first since the Warwickshire, England-based company was sold by Ford to Prodrive for $925 million in March 2007, and will instill new life into the brand. New features include an all-aluminum alloy 4.3 liter V-8 engine which takes you from 0 to 60 in 4.9 seconds, and a 6-speed, manual "Sportshift" transmission designed for faster and smoother gear changes without a clutch. Using dry sump lubrication, the engine is placed lower, which in turn lowers the car's center of gravity, improving safety and handling. At low speeds, the exhaust is whisper quiet, with bypass valves and variable inlet camshaft timing that enable an invigorating roar one would expect at high speeds. This vehicle is exemplary of Aston Martin's reputation for exclusivity (only 3,000 of this model will be produced in the world) and unrivaled quality, and is the direct antithesis of mass-production. From the stitching in the leather seats to the metal mesh grille, each and every component of the Roadster is hand-assembled. Its roof is not only lined with the same leather that comprises the interior, but retracts in 18 seconds and can be done while going up to 30 mph. When closed, the tight tuck of the roof effectively eliminates noise from traffic and wind. Whether deftly whipping around the tight curves of a mountain road on the weekend, or running errands at lunchtime downtown in Denver, the Roadster is at the zenith of usability in luxury convertible form.

Mazda MX-5 Miata
Price: $ 25,525
Engine: 2.0 liter DOHC 16-valve 4-cylinder
Horse Power: 166
Top Speed: 120 mph
Gear Box: 6-speed manual
Our Rating: 4 stars

The name Miata means "reward" in Old High German, and the nimble 2008 Mazda MX-5 Miata, representing the third year of the third-generation model, certainly lives up to its name – a big reward in a small package. The MX-5, which Car and Driver calls "an adult go-cart," and among "the 10 best cars for 2008" offers the fun you've come to expect, and a price that won't break the bank. The MX-5 is designed for entertainment in every aspect, with heated seats, a seven-speaker Bose audio system, and five color choices. The hood is also available in the traditional soft fabric, or in the more masculine hard top, which is virtually invisible when down. Its small but effective engine won't eat up gas, offers an excellent power-to-weight ratio, and still delivers the need for speed. Double wishbone suspension creates a balanced drive around the tightest of corners and increased shock absorption despite its light weight. As in previous models, its small size allows it to parallel the tiniest parking spot downtown, and with an adjustable height driver's seat, even a large body can fit comfortably. Need room for those golf clubs or a bulky suitcase for the weekend getaway with your significant other? No problem – this year's model has a surprisingly large 5.3-cubic foot trunk, an often-overlooked feature. The Miata is a wonderful spring accessory, even if the sporty two-seater is thought of as a guilty pleasure like Grey's Anatomy or Justin Timberlake. Don't worry … we won't tell.

Audi TT Roadster s line

Engine: 3.2 liter V-6
Horse Power: 250
Top Speed: 130 mph

Audi's second generation of the TT began production in 2006, featuring an aluminum front and a steel rear for flawless balance. It has won several awards, most notable the inaugural Fifth Gear Car of the Year in 2006 and World Design Car of the Year in 2007. The superior steering and increased acceleration of the new TT Roadster S Line make it perfect for Colorado mountain driving. The 3.2-liter V-6 version includes Quattro all-wheel drive and offers excellent gas mileage, at 25 highway miles to the gallon. With improved braking, tire pressure monitoring, and seat-mounted side airbags, the S Line is exemplary of Audi's strict safety standards, putting you at ease behind the wheel regardless of conditions or terrain. This year's version also features a more user-friendly roof, with a power-fold mechanism that can raise and lower the hood in 12 seconds, so it won't leave you waiting to enjoy that newly warm afternoon air. The S Line package features 19-inch all-alloy wheels, a stunning interior highlighted by Fine Nappa leather hand stitched on the ergonomically designed seats and steering wheel, and an exterior with the exquisite lines and contours that make an Audi unmistakable. The Roadster's heat-insulating windshield enables top-down driving even in our early, unpredictable spring months. For the speedster in you, a rear spoiler automatically extends at 75 mph, and retracts at 50 mph. A perfect blend of practicality and style, the S Line is an extension of the city slicker who enjoys a weekend adventure.
